Why is Viability Determination Important if You’re Considering Getting an Abortion?
As many as half of all pregnancies will end in miscarriage, according to March of Dimes, who specializes in miscarriage research. If you are considering an abortion, it is critical for you to know if:
- Your pregnancy is viable
- The gestational age of the fetus
These facts can only be confirmed with a sonogram.
The sonogram nurse will be able to detect and measure the heartbeat of the fetus as early as 5 weeks, 1 day after the first day of your last menstrual cycle. It is not uncommon, however, to need to repeat the sonogram several times over time in order to detect the heartbeat.
If You are Considering Getting an Abortion, You Need These Facts
If the pregnancy isn’t viable, you do not need to go to the expense and stress if it isn’t necessary. The exact age of the fetus is critical to know to determine what type of abortion you are eligible to have.
